There seem to be a lot of guitar, bass and drum instructors in Vancouver. What sets you apart?
I have a passion for teaching and understand the value that music can have in our daily lives. Most importantly, my experience in not just music, but music education ensures that each lesson I teach is a positive and fun learning experience. By the end of the music lesson term, l hope to equip my students with a working understanding of the fundamentals of music and an arsenal of songs they can feel proud to play in any circumstance… be it a sing-along campfire guitar session, a classical music recital, or a rock gig at Rogers Arena for thousands of adoring fans!
As a teacher, I understand the importance of BOTH the instructor and student coming prepared to the guitar, bass or drums lesson. Unlike a lot of instructors, I take the time to individualize music lesson plans and focus on teaching the student what they want to learn. I have a databank of 5000 plus songs from artists ranging from Coldplay, Neil Young, Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers to Metallica and can easily teach songs not in my databank, from any genre. My focus is on teaching you songs YOU want to learn.
What kind of music styles do you teach? What age and levels do you teach?
I teach all music styles for any age group or skill level.
What makes your musical background so unique?
McGill University and Berklee College are regarded as two of the most prestigious post-secondary music institutions in the world. Both institutions have been responsible for teaching some of the most successful musicians in the history of music. I have also had the honour of being invited to colleges like Selkirk College and high schools in B.C. as a clinician. Working in many reputable music schools such as Long and McQuade and Staccato Studios has honed my music teaching skills. I am also the frontman/lead guitarist for a highly acclaimed touring band called Louder Than Love who won the 99.3 Fox SEEDS competition in 2011 (the largest unsigned music competition in Canada and the same one that put Nickelback, Daniel Wesley, and Bif Naked on the map).
